                 022 . MW3 vs. BF3

Started as a drunk post by me regarding BF3 vs. MW3 and turned into a convo with a buddy.  I liked it so much I figured I would post it here.  Because I neglect these poor sites so horribly since donations quit coming in compared to before...   enjoy!  hopefully!  <3

  • Dear Call of Duty and Battlefield fanboys,
Yes, they are both shooters. Lets be fair, lets take the story away. Done? Alright.

What differences are there? Well, in BF3 vs. MW3 we have one difference MW3 has that BF3 doesn't have is the option to swap between 2 different sights on the same gun. They can call in air strikes and shit from imaginary sources that don't exist too.

Lets take a look at what BF3 has that MW3 doesn't.

You can fly aircraft. Jets and Helicopters. You can also drive vehicles on the ground. Tanks, Jeeps and Dune Buggies. And you don't call in air strikes from some fake computer source, you mark shit and people in the air can take it out. Or you can mark it in the air and shit on the ground can lock on it and fire (from certain capable tanks.)

Also there is this crazy thing called Bullet Drop. Actually needing to learn how guns work far beyond MW3. Need to learn even more so what guns, and more so what attachments even more so cause you to need to alter the way you point based on distance to make sure you hit your shit.

Oh, sorry, Call of Duty has Zombie Mode in some of their games. That's nice. It's fun at first, but no matter what you get to the point so many zombies are coming you can't possibly do anything but die. It's a no win scenario. is that fun? I don't really think so.

All battlefields, not just BF3, has destroyable environments. Think you're safe behind that wall in CoD? You're not in a BF game. Can blow that wall away with a rocket. Or a tank. or an air strike from any number of things you can fly.

But no, CoD is better than any BF.

Grow brains retards. Lets not be fucking retarded, alright? Yeah, Call of Duty started off as a bad ass franchise, but lets use our fucking heads when we're trying to talk shit against other games, shall we?

    Fucking dipfucks.
    ·  ·
    • Eustace Rohtledge likes this.
      • Erik Smith note: "But no, CoD is better than any BF." was sarcasm.
        about an hour ago ·  · 1
      • Eustace Rohtledge I enjoy CoD, BF and an old game called MAG, but the CoD series will always be my fave.
      • Erik Smith to be honest if you would have asked me what was my favorite series before either bF3 or MW3 were released, I would have said the call of duty series without thinking about it.

The problem is with the back to back playing BF3 all the way through the campaign between playing a beta of one live map, then after playing a ton of the maps... then going back to MW3.... MW3 is fucking terible directly compared. I couldn't get through the single player because of how absolutely horrendous it was. It's so bad, how the fuck do you shoot down a few helicopters at the same time and they all god own in the exact same way, exact same animations? is this the NES? Do they have no clue about game design? Is this their first fucking game? it's fucking horrible. And the fact the game felt like an arcade game? like, I was expecting to see insert quarter any time I died because it's so massively removed from reality... no physics at all besides ragdoll physics on the hyman NPCs, it's... it's just such a massive disappointment to me because I was looking forward to MW3 for a year or so. I was totally down for it. and I wasn't really down for BF3. The sound engine in BF3 even destroys any tiny little part of MW3s sound engine.

and I could probably type two or three times that much on the little things, that means everything, on what makes a game.... that MW3 just failed across the boards on. It was fucking .... I was heart broken.
      • Erik Smith I don't see how MW3 was, correct me if I"m wrong, but wasn't it the same fucking engine MW1 was built on but different engines? Really? REALLY? Can't even find a word that fits, disappointment doesn't even come close
        about an hour ago ·
      • Erik Smith god damnit i clicked wrong and lost what i just typed
        about an hour ago ·
      • Erik Smith i'll just retype, MW3 is lucky BF3 didn't have equal funding for advertising - aka, 150 MILLION more than it had. if it did, BF3 would be 50 bucks new right now and MW3 would be 35-40 bucks new.

        MW3 is MOTHERFUCKING lucky.
        about an hour ago ·  · 1
      • Erik Smith and i might be drunk and sick of trying to be nice to MW3tards.
        about an hour ago ·  · 1
      • Eustace Rohtledge if you want my brutal honesty...i havent seen ANY, and i mean any improvements to engine, graphics or physics to games since Doom 3 for PC on its very best settings.
      • Eustace Rohtledge atleast not shooters anyway
        about an hour ago ·
      • Erik Smith MW3 doesn't have bullet drop. Doesn't have destroyable environments. BF3 does.
      • Eustace Rohtledge probably shouldnt have grouped all games like that.
      • Erik Smith You put your crosshairs on something in any CoD game, ever, any console, any pc version, you hit it. Always have been able to, and I doubt they'll ever add bullet drop. I mean, BF had it back on BF2 but it got more real on BF3. More accurate vs. what weapons do with attachments.

Not to mention ... I'm a sound guy. I've never played a game with sound like BF3. No BF before it, no CoD game ever. No other shooter, ever. Only BF3. It's fucking outsanding.
      • Erik Smith Granted, they do add your accuracy dropping if you're firing a fully auto and hold the trigger down. They added that in Wolf3d back in the very early 90s. That's not bullet drop. haha
        about an hour ago ·  · 1
      • Eustace Rohtledge remind me again what bullet drop is, i'm a little drunk and tired as well.
      • Erik Smith As your range increases, your bullet drops. So if you're across the field you have to aim higher than your target, because your bullet falls. So at 300 yards you have to or your bullet will hit the ground a long way before it gets to them. You know, physics. MW3, nor any CoD game before it, has it.
      • Erik Smith Not to mention vehicles, aircraft, destroyable walls. I never really noticed or cared like I said before BF3 compared directly against MW3.
      • Eustace Rohtledge so its more realistic
        about an hour ago ·
      • Eustace Rohtledge as far as bullet drop goes
        about an hour ago ·
      • Erik Smith and destroyable environments, having to use strategy besides just getting your cursor on shit, more realistic sound... yes, far beyond bullet drop.
      • Eustace Rohtledge hahaha, first game i saw with destroyable environment was red faction
        about an hour ago ·
      • Erik Smith Uhhh, red faction was a long time after Battlefield was doing it... :D
        about an hour ago ·  · 1
      • Eustace Rohtledge you could rocket tunnel you'r way through a map
        about an hour ago ·
      • Eustace Rohtledge idk which came first, i'll take your word for it
        about an hour ago ·
      • Eustace Rohtledge any early fps games come to mind that you remember fondly? pc or console
        about an hour ago ·
      • Erik Smith wolf3d in the early 90s / late 80s, not sure exactly
        about an hour ago ·
      • Erik Smith i liked that more than i liked any doom 'till doom 2 on sega 32x... but that was like a decade after wolf3d i'm fairly sure... and next game i liked that much after was return to castle wolfenstein which i didnt find a shooter i liked more 'till america's army: operations, which funny enough was the army's baby (which was better than counterstrike, counterstrike stole a bunch of the shit they did, and advanced on it, then america's army stole advancements and advanced on it, and counterstrike source stoll those advancements and added to it, then america's army tried rewriting the wheel on their game and shit all over it haha)
      • Erik Smith only recent game i think made shooters go to the next level in being interesting was portal. but, i'd still take a battlefield game over portal because the depth in gameplay is insanely higher besides just random shit in portaling around
        about an hour ago ·
      • Eustace Rohtledge mine would be in no particular order, unreal, quake, duke nukem, half life, doom and wolfenstein. for various reasons
        about an hour ago ·
      • Eustace Rohtledge i more so meant those titles as their series in whole
        about an hour ago ·
      • Erik Smith yeah some of unreal's engines were pretty amazing. half life was alright, but i think it was given a lot more credit than it deserved
        about an hour ago ·
      • Erik Smith i think engine wise if you don't count the frostbite engine versions (AMAZING) i think the fallout engines were all just fucking orgasmic in their times
        about an hour ago ·
      • Eustace Rohtledge you also have to consider what was out and available at the time when those games came out.
      • Eustace Rohtledge oh yeah, i forgot fallout
        about an hour ago ·
      • Erik Smith sure do :)
      • Erik Smith don't forget that i said i would have said call of duty would be my favorite 'till i spent a month or two in BF3's engine then went way way back in time to MW3's engine and wanted to die
        about an hour ago ·
      • Erik Smith and i've never lost months of my life to any call of duty version like i did to battlefield 1942
        about an hour ago ·
      • Erik Smith so i think that's pretty profound for pre bf3/mw3 world :P
        about an hour ago ·
      • Eustace Rohtledge if you play the original fallout, which looks like a 3rd person steampunkd warcraft, and look at the latest fallout, your mind explodes, or atleast, mine did
        about an hour ago ·
      • Eustace Rohtledge my buddy a while back was like, hey you should check out the game fallout
        about an hour ago ·
      • Erik Smith same goes for world of warcft vs. the original warcraft :D
        about an hour ago ·
      • Eustace Rohtledge and i went looking for fallout and got the first one
        about an hour ago ·
      • Eustace Rohtledge and he was like, no, i mean the newest one
        about an hour ago ·
      • Eustace Rohtledge so, i have to ask
        about an hour ago ·
      • Eustace Rohtledge what is your opinion about the 2 weapons one pistol, and some throw weapons layout, vs the i can carry the entire smithfield armory style that they had in games like goldeneye and perfect dark?
      • Erik Smith i think the whole armory shit is fucking retarded, like fallout and the like, vs. bf3 or whatever other game where you really are limited to a few things, like you would really be able to carry
        about an hour ago ·
      • Erik Smith though, i don't complain when i run out of 400 rounds on 10 different guns, in the game, at the time.. but looking back, it was stupid haha
        about an hour ago ·
      • Eustace Rohtledge how about dual wielding rocket launchers or shot guns? XD wasnt that realistic? :P
        59 minutes ago ·
      • Erik Smith even the doom franchise which i love, 900 weapons... fuckingstupid
        59 minutes ago ·
      • Erik Smith dualing shotguns is totally possible for strong people, but rocket launchers and miniguns and shit is stupid, halo
        59 minutes ago ·

  • Erik Smith granted, with an energy suit i'm sure in halo anything is dual wieldable so i guess i have to revoke the halo comment haha
    58 minutes ago ·  · 1
  • Eustace Rohtledge or how you can hold the trigger down for several minutes with no cooldown worries vs real life where the barrels wouldve melted
    58 minutes ago ·
  • Erik Smith yeah. i've always had a problem with machine guns not having a heat meter in games like the mounted ones do in almost every game. mounted ones do but ones you carry don't? but still. that's my problem with MW3, there's just an insane amount of variation between that and BF3 that it really hurts me too much to stomach it
    57 minutes ago ·
  • Erik Smith and for that matter it's hard for me to play any shooter after BF3, and I've gone back to play quite a bit... BF3 fucked up shooters for me, truly
    57 minutes ago ·
  • Eustace Rohtledge timemachine erik goes back and steals bf3 from shooter hopeful erik?
  • Eustace Rohtledge to save his fps experience
    56 minutes ago ·
  • Erik Smith it's like when you have insane mind blowing sex with by far the hottest person you've ever met in your life... all sex before and after is measured against that. that's BF3 to pretty much all people who have truly played it for weeks enough to really understand. plus, back to just talking bf3 and mw3, i know of literally dozens of people who were transitioned from BF3 to MW3 and can only thiink of a couple who went from BF3 to MW3.... that should say something too, heh..
    55 minutes ago ·  · 1
  • Erik Smith it might be nice. i've played some new shooters that came out after BF3 and I think they wouldn't have been so god damn "meh...." if I hadn't played BF3
    55 minutes ago ·
  • Eustace Rohtledge one of the reasons i loved the bioshock series is because of its inovative and refreshing weapons and storyline, the spy stories are old, the zombie stories are old (resident evil), the MGS series still holds my interests a bit, but losing even that slowly, Silent hill could make a good fps, but lets face it you really dont get a gun til towards the end and even then, theres not really enough ammo to substantiate that view, unless you go with the oblivion/morrowind view of holding different melee weapons infront of your face the whole game. as long as theres something new brought to the table i'll spend the 50 to 60 to try it, but dont charge that much if you're just going to literally repackage the same shit from the last game you released as new.
  • Erik Smith yeah that's part of the reason i was so shocked and actually paid $60 for BF3, I couldn't believe how they pulled off the sound, lighting, destryable environments while keeping the realization so much higher visually than i had seen in any shooter before or since
    46 minutes ago ·  · 1
  • Erik Smith ‎^^ *so far
  • Eustace Rohtledge what did you think of prey and crysis1 and 2, if you tried them that is?
  • Erik Smith i should mention the way they pulled off the single player storyline (not counting the jet section).. i played that through a few times AND made a youtube video of the whole campaign of BF3... never done that with a shooter before, not even any of the wolfenstein series..
    44 minutes ago ·  · 1
  • Erik Smith i haven't been all the way through cyrsis or mass effect yet, though i've heard people talk about those series before but those aren't so much shooters as they are scifi FPS games right?
    44 minutes ago ·  · 1
  • Erik Smith and halo for that matter
  • Erik Smith though i've played halo 1, 2, seen halo 3 all the way through... don't care enough to go through them again, even counting sci fi storyline in there with it, bf3 wins haha.. from what i've gone through.. i should do the crysis and mass effect games all the way through
    43 minutes ago ·
  • Eustace Rohtledge Deus Ex would also fall under a sci fi shooter
    40 minutes ago ·
  • Erik Smith yeah but i wasnt impressed with dues ex, went through that shooter.. was fun, don't regret doing it that's for sure
    40 minutes ago ·
  • Eustace Rohtledge RAGE was just too much like a bad fallout rip off to be any good, and thats even counting the new engine it came out with. just bleh.
  • Erik Smith i mean, i should clarify dues ex was pretty sweet. just, didn't blow my top off haha
    39 minutes ago ·  · 1
  • Erik Smith i felt the same way as when i was leaving girl with a dragon tatto... FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! never seeing that again though, but GOD DAMN NICE! hahah
    38 minutes ago ·  · 1
  • Eustace Rohtledge best third person view shooter in your opinion?
  • Erik Smith has to be fallout 3, not even new vegas, can't think of a 3rd person i liked as much
    37 minutes ago ·  · 1
  • Erik Smith there's some space one, dead space? i think? i've never played it because not being able to zoom in from time to time if you so choose makes me HATE the idea of being stuck with 1/3 or more of your screen taken up by the toon you play, fuck everything about that
    36 minutes ago ·
  • Eustace Rohtledge mine would have to be MGS: guns of the patriots
    36 minutes ago ·
  • Erik Smith i am sadly behind on metal gear games... truly, that is the biggest one i've totally slacked on. last metal gear i played? was on NES. Alex Opal has told me many times that I need to play new metal gears.
    35 minutes ago ·  · 1
  • Erik Smith they need a fps of contra. or even 3rd person. that series on nintendo and snes was fucking awesome
    35 minutes ago ·
  • Erik Smith hahah i believe it.
  • Erik Smith i havent played any wii versions of zelda though, need a damn wii.
  • Eustace Rohtledge i would fucking explode with happiness if they ever did a really good fps for the metal slug series
    33 minutes ago ·
  • Erik Smith i think they could do some hardcore shit with modern graphics on the sonic the hedgehog franchise, holy fuck
    33 minutes ago ·  · 1
  • Eustace Rohtledge if they made it realistic but kept the unrealistic bosses and tanks and weapons.
    32 minutes ago ·  · 1
  • Erik Smith exactly! fuck yeah, could be epic
    32 minutes ago ·
  • Eustace Rohtledge not a big fan of horror games im guessing?
  • Erik Smith ehhhh, i've been exposed to so many horror movies and so many of the 2000 and earlier horror games and attempts at horror games that ... i mean, after you've seen enough horror movies.... it all becomes corny, you know? last game to scare me was doom 3, but that was more because i had surround sound and played it start to finish in the dark and was left totally alone the entire time
    30 minutes ago ·
  • Erik Smith only game i've literally had a flashback to, if you've ever played doom3 all the way through, it was directly related to monorails. that should clue you in on what the flashback trigger was. :D
    29 minutes ago ·  · 1
  • Eustace Rohtledge lol, thats ok, i didnt need any sleep anyway, right? LOL
    29 minutes ago ·  · 1
  • Erik Smith sadly thinking back, i was more creeped out when the fucking flood was introduced in halo than i ever was in amnesia or any of those corny horror games
    28 minutes ago ·
  • Eustace Rohtledge if you enjoy soiled pants, there was a part in the game if you looked into a mirror holding a shotgun.
  • Erik Smith hahahha yeah
    27 minutes ago ·  · 1
  • Erik Smith i wish duke nukem forever was better, biggest disappointment ever i think
    27 minutes ago ·  · 1
  • Eustace Rohtledge pretty much had the effect of the vids where you think youre watching a girl undress and suddenly its some disconbobulated bloddy head screaming at max high pitch
    27 minutes ago ·  · 1
  • Eustace Rohtledge so, whats your take on game expanions and add ons?
  • Eustace Rohtledge i guess most of that has been replaced with DLC nowadays
    26 minutes ago ·
  • Erik Smith i think any game that charges you a monthly fee AND charges for expansions should crawl away and die quietly.
    26 minutes ago ·  · 1
  • Erik Smith that's about as far as any commentary from me goes.
    25 minutes ago ·  · 1
  • Eustace Rohtledge so, if there was a dlc for bf3 where you got super sayian armour, a jetpack and a scoped railgun, you would...?
  • Eustace Rohtledge not pay for it?
  • Erik Smith if it had the sound and lighting quality it has now? pretty sure i would have a boner. and ground plus air vehicles? would be hard for them to pull off. like the battlefield 2146 or whatever the fuck year that was... i thought they kinda bombed, though it was fun in an amusing way.. but still... i would give it a shot.
  • Erik Smith oh a dlc, didn't see that... uhhhhh..... it would have to be some sort of alternate universe totally separate different game... depending on the price, if it was under 30 yeah i'd probably give it a shot
    22 minutes ago ·
  • Erik Smith but as it is i'm not paying for the expansions because the little bit they're adding vs. the price? and the fact they've had not too much lower priced shit just for unlocks you can do yourself for free? i think they're shitting the bed in a big way on expansions/dlcs
    21 minutes ago ·
  • Eustace Rohtledge i love it when you get dlc or add on in an online game, that you paid for, and people accuse you of cheating for using it. kills me everytime
    21 minutes ago ·
  • Erik Smith yeah it's pretty lame.
    21 minutes ago ·  · 1
  • Eustace Rohtledge
one of the big problems that a few forums and game magazines have addressed is that unlike the nes or sega replay, with these online games or games that require update downloads or patches, whats gonna happen once those game companies cut the help and fix departments for those titles? 10 years from now or so, you think if you buy an old ps3 or 360 game and the company that has the fixes and patches doesnt exist anymore, there goes that, it isnt like sonic or mario, itll be well, i guess..ill play what i can since the fixes arent available
    17 minutes ago ·
  • Eustace Rohtledge on the other hand
  • Eustace Rohtledge anniversary re releases could happen where the game is "fixed" when you buy it, thus, you wouldnt need an internet connection or fix/patch to play and enjoy fully
    16 minutes ago ·
  • Erik Smith yeah i don't know what the fuck blizzard is thinking with having diablo 3 require a connection to play solo. fucking stupid.
  • Eustace Rohtledge could you imagine if (back then) contra required a fix or patch for bugs and glitches, and that the game would freeze or could not be completed without them? no one without already having it on their system would ever buy used or play it again
    13 minutes ago ·
  • Erik Smith i don't know of many games that have that big of problems coming out of the box though, shrug
    13 minutes ago ·
  • Erik Smith i mean thinking back i remember several games on NES/SNES/N64/Sega/Sega Genesis that had bugs that would fuck your game, but, you learned the few of them that existed and just didn't do it again to get through that part... and like now, virtually if not none of them are such that you can't get through them without patches.. just, sometimes you can find ways to crash / freeze the game
    12 minutes ago ·  · 1
  • Eustace Rohtledge yeah, growing up we kinda just said, oh, that door code is broken or that side quest is incomplete, ignore it and carry on with the rest of the game, with maybe a handful of people angry enough to write to nintendo power about it. like its their problem or something.
    11 minutes ago ·  · 1
  • Eustace Rohtledge theyve also steered away from external cheat devices, like game genie, code breaker or game shark, even type in cheats you dont see as often. its accomplishments and achievements now if you want god like invincibility and destruction
    8 minutes ago ·
  • Eustace Rohtledge and they arent really doing game guides anymore thanks to info access online and walk throughs.

  • Erik Smith
yep. which is cool for gamers. but most games i really have no desire to spend the time learning and getting through, especially MMOs.. I'd love to see them through but I'm not losing months to them. that's the big downfall to no god mode in a lot of situations. if i can't turn on godmode, chances are i'm never going to see their game. so many games come out a month it's impossible to see them through. the fallout games i first played through on god mode. and now i own fallout 3 game of the year edition and new vegas standard edition. same with almost all of the C&C games. if it wasn't for cheat codes i wouldn't have fallen in love with them and invested money in them. However, there are tons of games i god moded through and have no desire to play, thus am glad i didn't pay for them.

  • Eustace Rohtledge its makes you appreciate god mode when you have to earn it, like with resident evil, if you beat the game in a certain ammount of time, or got a high enough end grade (accuracy, completed side quest, number of puzzles completed) as well as what difficulty you were on, you got to use better weapons with infinite ammo or invulnerable. which i guess they relied on for part of the games replay value.
  • Eustace Rohtledge hell, now they do that to get you to buy it early...
  • Eustace Rohtledge reserve this game here and get this map, or gun or skin, ect
    4 minutes ago ·
  • Eustace Rohtledge the old ones were better, the early buy incentives, for doom 3 if you reserved the collectors edition you got a iD Doom 3 shirt and a collectors guide, which included the full game story script, all concept art and whatnot.

  • Erik Smith i still think not being able to use trainers on a lot of games really sucks shit... not going to get me to play it by restricting it, they're losing out on people who may end up getting addicted to it
    2 seconds ago ·

  • Eustace Rohtledge ps3...i do pay for dlc and whatnot, but not for online play, i mean damn, i already pay $30 a month for two WoW accounts.
